A new Great Leap Forward? China’s race for tech supremacy despite costs
On China's pursuit of technological dominance to enhance state power and geopolitical advantage.
China is the world’s second-largest economy. Its economic weight has a significant impact on the global economic landscape, with far-reaching consequences for both Sweden and Europe. Swedish and European companies are directly affected by China’s economic policies, including the growing use of export controls as a tool of economic and foreign policy.
At the Swedish National China Centre, we monitor and analyse China’s economic policies, the operating environment for Swedish and European companies in China, and the impact of geopolitical risks on the global and local business climate. We also follow China’s role in trade disputes and its growing importance as a geo-economic actor.
We collaborate with and participate in networks such as the Sweden-China Trade Council, the European Think-tank Network on China (ETNC) and the European China Knowledge Network (E-CKN). Through these partnerships, we contribute to knowledge exchange and strengthen understanding of China’s economic development, policies and growing role in the global economy.
