China and the Arctic

China is playing an increasingly important role in the Arctic, while the region is becoming more strategically significant as an arena for security and defence policy.

At the Swedish National China Centre, we monitor and analyse China’s growing presence in the region through analysis, advice and resources. This includes China’s relations with the Nordic Arctic countries and its strategic interests in areas such as mineral resources, shipping and cooperation with Russia.

We collaborate with expert and research networks, government agencies, businesses and other organisations in Sweden and Northern Europe to strengthen knowledge and understanding of China’s role in the Arctic and the region’s evolving strategic importance.
